HHG LEGAL GROUP EXPANDS INTO THE SOUTH WEST; ACQUIRES BUNBURY LAW FIRM IN LATEST MOVE

After 100 years of delivering legal services across WA, first in Albany, then in Perth, Mandurah and Joondalup, HHG has acquired boutique law firm Kroon Legal, in Bunbury and will open HHG Bunbury in January 2021.

With a medium size, full-service focus on quality law across all of WA, HHG Legal Group has grown significantly from the time it was taken over by Directors Simon Creek and Murray Thornhill in late 2003. In 2006, HHG opened in Perth and the firm’s unique service levels led to rapid growth.

Earlier this year, HHG moved its headquarters to state of the art offices in the Cloisters Building at 863 Hay St in the Perth CBD. In 2015, the Mandurah law firm opened – the first time a medium-sized law firm had entered the Peel region – and then duplicated this commitment by opening in Joondalup in 2019. Within months, the HHG Joondalup team needed to move to larger premises in the same building.

Executive Chairman, Simon Creek said “Bunbury is a logical next move for HHG Legal Group. One of our unique points of difference is our commitment to all of WA – Perth CBD, the northern and southern growth corridors and the regions. HHG was established in Albany in 1919. I am a farmer’s son from Boyup Brook and while my family holidayed in Albany each year, we shopped in Bunbury and I went to boarding school there. Bringing medium sized, full service, blue chip legal services to the South West has been a personal project of mine for over five years.”

The Kroon Legal team, including firm founder and highly regarded Accredited Family Law Specialist, Rod Kroon, will continue to work with HHG Legal Group.

Mr Kroon said “For over 20 years, as I have built Kroon Legal with my wife, Wendy, I have observed consistent population growth in Bunbury. More recently, it struck me that the second biggest city in WA has no more lawyers now, than it did 20 years ago. It is about time that Bunbury and all of the SW had easier access to the resources and strength of a medium-sized firm.”

Mr Kroon added “HHG Legal Group is a perfect fit for Bunbury not only because of its award-winning service levels and size, but also because of its existing regional influence. Simon and Murray have spent their careers working for both city and country clients. HHG lawyers are just as happy on St Georges Terrace as they are in Albany or Bunbury. I am looking forward to managing HHG Bunbury and working with the firm’s leadership team to serve the entire SW”.

Adding to many other accolades, HHG Legal Group was recently the winner of the WA ‘Australasian Law Award for Excellence’, 2020. The firm also has its very own charitable arm – HHG Giving Back – which actively provides pro bono legal support through legal clinics and to various community groups.
